Top 10 UNESCO Philippines World Heritage Sites

TUBBATAHA REEF PALAWAN


Located in Sulu Sea, southeast of Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, UNESCO declared in December 1993 as a world heritage site . Hundreds of marine life serves as a nesting place for birds and 300 coral species and 400 species of fish .

PUERTO PRINCESA SUBTERRANEAN RIVER NATIONAL PARK

Currently ranked number 8 on the list of new seven wonders of the world . Located at near 50 km. north of Puerto Princesa, Palawan, this features a long navigable underground river about 8.2 km. , the city government of Puerto Princesa has managed the national park since 1992 . It is also known as St. Paul's Subterranean River National Park, or St. Paul Underground River.

BANAUE RICE TERRACES

The Rice Terraces are commonly referred to by Filipinos as the "Eight Wonder Of The World". In 1995, UNESCO confirmed the Banaue Rice Terraces as a World Heritage Site, they extend over five provinces, namely, Ifugao, Benguet, Kalinga, Mountain Province, & Apayao.

APO REEF NATIONAL PARK


The second largest contiguous coral reef in the world , the Apo Reef National park is consist of three islands, Apo Reef is the largest among the three islands. Apo Reef National Park is located in Sablayan Occidental Mindoro . Several environments can be found within the reefs boundaries. Aside from coral reefs , seagrass meadows, beds of macroalgae and mangrove stands are present on around the reef proper.

MT. IGLIT- BACO NATIONAL PARK


One of the most deforested island in the Philippines . Wildlife sanctuary located at Sablayan , Calintaan , Rizal and San Jose , Mindoro Oriental and Occidental , it was proclaimed as UNESCO World Heritage in 1993. Mt. Iglit is one of Mindoro's reservation areas, declared as a game sanctuary Tamaraws, wild animals found nowhere else in the world.

HISTORIC CITY OF VIGAN IN ILOCOS SUR


UNESCO inscribed Vigan in the world heritage list , established in the 16th century , Vigan is the best preserved example of a planned Spanish colonial town in Asia . Vigan is an exceptionally intact and well-preserved example of a European trading town in east and southeast asia . Located in the delta of the Abra River , off the coastal plain of the China Sea , close to the northeast tip of the island of Luzon .

SANTO TOMAS DE VILLANUEVA CHURCH



Also known as the Miag-ao fortress church, the large fortress was completed in 1797 . Miag-ao is about 40 km. southwest of Iloilo City . It is of only four (Augustinian built) churches in the country to make it to the prestigious UNESCO World Heritage List .

NUESTRA SEÑORA DE LA ASUNCION


Flat plain between the sea and central mountain range of Ilocos Sur Province on the island of Luzon in the town proper of Sta.Maria . 85 wide steps starting at the town proper to appreciate and ascend the church's grand stairway.

SAN AGUSTIN CHURCH -INTRAMUROS

It was built by the spaniard Juan Marcias in 1586 and was completed in 1606 . In 1993 , San Agustin Church was one of four Philippines churches constructed during the spanish colonial period to be designated as a world heritage by UNESCO , under the classification "Baroque Churches of the Philippines ".

CHURCH OF SAN AGUSTIN IN PAOAY , ILOCOS NORTE


Built from 1694 to between 1702 and 1710 . One of the most outstanding "Earthquake Baroque" structure in the Philippines where the primary concern was to design the church for eathquake protection . Located in the town of Paoay province of Ilocos Norte within the municipality of Sangladan.
